Westerleigh Winter league Rnd 1

Winter league Rnd 1
It was off to a good start for last weeks winner Steve Rogers (practice makes perfect apparently)
Drawing peg 21 on the canal lake Steve did what others didn't and went on the attack from the off.
Fishing treble caster over ground bait in three different places around the peg managed to keep the carp coming steady throughout the day.

2nd on the day was Brian Shanks from peg 2 with 23-5 on the big lake who just scraped a section win by 4 oz from Marcus from Bitterwell

Westerleigh WL practice match

Steve Rogers left his bread at home this week which done him a favour,
Drawing peg 6 on the main lake and using up his ground bait limit he was soon into a run of decent carp down the right hand margin and manage to amass a total of 49-10.to secure an easy victory.

2nd on the lake from inform peg 2 was Mark Taylor with 38-6 also catching down his left hand margin on maggot

The canal lake fished the best it has done in the winter for 4 years due to the restocking  bought from last years peg fees.
Brian Shanks secured 1st on the lake with a 6lb carp in the last 10mins to just pip Darren North by 4lb

Winter league final Rnd

A cracking spring day was the setting for the final round of this extended winter league.

With a frost on the floor and a bright day ahead the going was going to be tough, proved a bit to tough for a couple of guys as they were spotted driving off to another venue, if your going to commit then commit, its that simple.

All the presure was on Johny Clark to day as he was at the top of the leader board going into this final round, with a £100 prise money up for grabs  johny's nerves must of been on edge as he spent most of Saturday walking around the lakes asking people what they were catching on, it did him no harm as you can see by the results.

1st on the day was Brian Shanks from peg 13 on the big lake who fished single maggot for a mixed bag of tench, skimmers and small carp for 16lb  2nd  was mark Taylor from peg 2 also fishing maggot for 8.13lb

Winter league Round 5

Bright sunshine all around was the forecast for the 5th round of this series and they weren't wrong.
With a little colour left in the lakes from the rain earlier on in the week expectations were running high for those drawn on the canal lake, that was all to change as the day progressed as the top weight on the canal was Marcus from the bitterwell tribe with 3-2 of small roach and skimmers.

Over on the old lake saw Mark Taylor draw peg 13 and there was no messing about with pinkeis and faggots, it was straight out at 16 mts with corn and 30 mins in Mark was on his 4th carp and a new lake record was starting to form.
Wrong, things did slow up  and he only managed a few more after this frantic start.

Trying to catch up was Brian Shanks on peg 8 who had a mixed bag of silvers and small carp for 27lb  but it was not going to beat Marks 36lb.

Mark Taylor              36-11

Winter League round 4 Bitterwell lake

Steve Rogers made good use of his bread fishing finesse to take a well deserved victory in the 4th round of the Westerleigh Winter league.

This round was held on Bitterwell lake and due to the horrendous weather conditions it was going to  be a tough one, Steve Rogers  drew one of the calmest spots on pond and proceeded to catch skimmers to 2lb about 30 mins into the match ..Feeding liquididised bread and fishing punch on the hook he soon had the match in the bag, Ryan Shipp had a late run of two carp but they weighed just shy of Steve's all silver weight of 14-12

Winter League Rnd 3

Winter league Rnd 3

Johny Clarke the mill expert is the man to beat at the moment at westerleigh, Drawing the same peg as he did on Rnd 1 he fished identical tactics but only managed half the weight this time.
It was a tight finish after a gruelling winters day between Martin McMahon and Johny, with only 3oz separating the two come the end. Both weighed in a mixed net of small carp and silvers for there respective weights.

A special mention to third place this week as i did manage to leave him off the results on the last blog, His name John the sparky, persevering with his right hand margin he managed to connect with the biggest carp caught on the day 7lb 6 oz which he was well pleased with.
