Winter league round 2

Full turn out today 10 on each lake, Good start to the day was a piping hot breakfast in the New Inn Westerleigh, with more toast than you ever imagine and fried bread was optional as always.
Draw was on time  9.00 am and last through the door was the Shipp family with one of them at least drawing a half tidy peg on the canal lake after having a torrid time trying to load there estate car with two Preston boxes and all the associated rubbish that we take with us.

With the weather on the milder side than the previous round there was rumour that the lake record might go but after seeing peg 35 where  Mike Nichols had drawn it was apparent that a jam jar would suffice instead of three nets. The canal lake was really clear and there was a shoal of carp reported to be seen patrolling the far side from the eagle eyed Vince Shipp and Darren North who both managed to avoid hooking one.
Best weight on this lake was Yate's very own Dave Downton who did manage to snare a carp to amass a total weight of 6lb 3oz.

On the big lake from peg 14 it was the retired banker Simon Belcham who also managed to catch a few carp which even surprised him self as he was trying to catch 2oz roach on single maggot. Fishing at 8 meters towards the island Simon connected with 5 carp which was enough to win the section and the match.

2nd place went to Westerleigh's Brian Shanks with 11lb 10oz from peg 3 catching 8lb of small skimmers and a couple of small carp over g/b and pinkies.Close behind him was Martin McMahon who after a very slow start and a quick phone call to his son Joe he managed to tip a well deserved 10lb 5oz onto the scales.

Only one person Managed to avoid the scales due to a very bad leaf problem but he did enjoy the breakfast.

1st  Simon Belcham.................18lb 5oz
2nd Brian Shanks....................11lb 10oz
3rd Martin McMahom...............10lb 5oz
4th Martin Alexander...............7lb 13oz
5th Phil Harding.....................7lb
6th Dave Downton..................6lb 3oz

Next Round 12th Jan, have a nice Christmas.

Winter league Round One

We have 10 anglers on each lake for this league which leaves plenty of room for all, but with a couple of people on holiday and one who couldn't make it at the last moment we had even more room which was just as well.

After yet another frost the fishing was going to be challenging to say the least,  but making no mistakes in this 5 hour endurance test was Darren North who showed his worth in managing to secure a section win and a first on the day from the iron jetty peg 6,with Vince Shipp to his left and Steve the bread Rogers over on peg 8 he was going to have his work cut out.
A bit of a slow start for all but that soon changed for Darren after dobbing his rig in down the edge towards peg 7 he never looked back, with plenty of bites coming to soft pellet over micro feed he managed to stay in front of Phill Harding by just a 1 lb come the end.

Phill was over on peg 23 on the canal lake and caught three good carp and some skimmers on caster which was a good enough to secure a section/lake win.Best silvers on the day went to Vince Shipp on peg 5 who caught some bonus tench and a handful of small skimmers all falling to maggot over pinkies. There were plenty of small fish caught on both lakes but not much quality but with the water gin clear it was hardly surprising. Stu Foale had a nice net of baby skimmers and small roach from peg 30 on the canal fishing expanders over g/bait
The results were back in the New inn  Westerleigh where the usual array of banter and p### taking took place.

Next match Dec 8th (might be even colder )Bring your ice breakers.

1 Darren North ..........18lb 8oz
2 Phill Harding  ..........17lb 7oz
3 Steve Rogers .......... 9lb 4oz
4 Vince Shipp  ........... 8lb 15oz
5 Mike Nicholles.........  7lb
6 Stu Foale ................6lb 12oz
